Introduction

“The purpose of Peak Design is to create happy, meaningful lives for the people that work here. We believe our mission can only be achieved when 40 (and counting) self-actualizing, highly stoked people enthusiastically step into the Peak Design office every day. Our purpose and our mission go hand-in-hand.”

In the world of photography, the importance of having the right camera accessories cannot be overstated. From camera straps to bags, tripods, and mounts, these essential tools are what make capturing the perfect shot possible. One brand that has been making waves in this industry is Peak Design. Founded in 2010 by Peter Dering, Peak Design has redefined what it means to create innovative and functional camera accessories.

Peak Design’s Origins

Peter Dering, the founder of Peak Design, was on a four-month trip around the world when he realised that carrying a camera around was a real pain. He returned to his San Francisco apartment and decided to develop a device that would make carrying and using a camera an absolute joy. After quitting his job, he spent ten months developing a product that would later be known as Capture.

Capture is a small, unobtrusive clip that attaches to any camera and allows the user to quickly and easily attach it to any bag or strap. It was a game-changer for photographers who were looking for a more comfortable way to carry their cameras. Rather than relying on big outside investors, Peter Dering decided to use Kickstarter to launch his product. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and Peak Design was born.

Peak Design’s Products

Since its launch, Peak Design has built up a line of products that have become a success before the release of each line. They have taken the camera accessory industry by storm with their focus on innovation and functionality. Some of their most popular products include:

  1. Everyday Backpack: The Everyday Backpack is a versatile backpack designed for photographers, commuters, and anyone who needs a bag that can adapt to their needs. It features a customizable interior that can be configured to fit any gear, a weatherproof exterior, and a comfortable carry system.
  2. Slide Camera Strap: The Slide Camera Strap is Peak Design’s most popular camera strap. It is comfortable, versatile, and can be worn in multiple configurations. The strap can support up to 200 pounds and features quick-connectors that allow the user to easily switch between cameras.
  3. Travel Tripod: The Travel Tripod is an innovative and compact tripod that can be easily carried on the go. It features a unique ball head design that allows for quick and easy adjustments and can support up to 20 pounds.
  4. Capture Clip: The Capture Clip is Peak Design’s first product and remains one of its most popular. It allows the user to quickly and easily attach their camera to any bag or strap, freeing up their hands and making it easier to carry their gear.

The Future of Peak Design

Peak Design has established itself as a leading brand in the camera accessory industry, but they are not content to rest on their laurels. The company is committed to continued innovation and is always looking for ways to improve their products. They have a strong focus on sustainability and have launched initiatives to reduce waste and carbon emissions in their production process.

In 2021, Peak Design launched a new initiative called “Climate Neutral Now.” This initiative aims to offset the carbon emissions created during the production of their products by investing in renewable energy projects around the world. By doing so, Peak Design is taking a proactive approach to reducing their impact on the environment.

In 2015 following the success of the every day messenger bag company Peak design looked to release a backpack.

5 Years Later

After more than five years of using the Peak Design every day backpack, I can say with confidence that it has been an exceptional investment. Despite the wear and tear that comes with daily use, the bag remains my go-to option for carrying all of my essential items.

One of the most impressive aspects of this backpack is its durability. As you can see from the photos, the bag is still largely in great condition even after half a decade of regular use. Although I have lost the original chest strap, it has not had any significant impact on the bag’s overall functionality. The bag’s internal compartments, although slightly more “woolly” than the original spec, remain fully functional and have stood the test of time.

What’s more, the bag’s waterproofing has been consistently reliable throughout its lifespan, effectively shielding my belongings from the elements. Even with the folding of the internal compartments, which initially caused some concern, they have continued to hold up exceptionally well, demonstrating the strength and resilience of the design.

Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with the Peak Design every day backpack’s performance, and I can confidently say that it has exceeded my expectations in every way. After more than five years of use, I still consider it to be one of the most reliable and durable backpacks I have ever owned. I highly recommend this backpack to anyone in need of a versatile, long-lasting, and functional everyday bag that can keep up with their lifestyle.
